Dr. Tania’s Academic Training & Background

Teaching

My teaching experiences include being an Adjunct Professor at Lynn University teaching graduate and undergraduate classes in psychology in the College of Arts and Science.

Presentations and Research

Professionally, I have presented my research at over 15 professional conferences. I have presented numerous clinical webinars to various audiences and have been featured in two newspapers and other media sources.

Dr. Tania’s Athletic Journey

My own experience as a former professional athlete played a pivotal role in my passion for sports and performance psychology. I grew up playing a variety of sports and started playing tennis at age 12. The sport quickly became the lens through which I grew to know myself and the world. My youth career took me through the club/provincial state levels, and within four years, I was crowned the Canadian National Champion in Doubles U16.

I was offered multiple full-athletic NCAA Division I scholarships to prestigious universities, however, I declined these to pursue my athletic potential on the professional WTA and ITF tours. I relocated to South Florida to train with my personal coach, who was formerly a Romanian Olympic coach. The difficulties on tour coupled with mental health struggles led my journey to accept a full athletic scholarship to Lynn University where I competed for the Women’s Tennis Team.  My competition season was cut short due to a viral illness and discrepancies with the coach while I retained my athletic scholarship. Growing up, I was an avid long distance runner, completeing numerous half marathons (PB of 1:30hr) and podiumed in many Olympic and Spring distance triathlons along with trail running.

My doctoral-level training in clinical psychology and unique history as a former professional tennis player, competitive athlete and student-athlete since middle school equip me and make me uniquely qualified to work with a wide variety of concerns with athletes and student athletes.

I am an Elite USPTA Professional, and Certified Cardio Tennis provider and have been teaching tennis for the over 10 years both independently and at a variety of country clubs throughout North America. At the elite level, I have worked with renowned tennis coaches, both at the National and International level (Yves Boulais and Yan Lefebvre) and I have partook in multiple training camps with the Canadian National Training Center (NTC) and various well known tennis academics in Florida.

My areas of interest include athletes and disordered eating, body image, athletic career transition and termination, and international student-athletes. I have created and presented many presentations and workshops to various Division I, II and III varsity athletic teams.

I understand the impact physical and psychological factors have on an athlete’s ability to perform, which is why I coordinate services and tailor treatment to fit the needs of each individual athlete. Through my treatment, athletes will lead healthier, more meaningful lives by developing their mental toughness, enhancing their personal motivation, managing their emotions, and learning the skills to set and achieve their goals. By integrating various treatment modalities, I help athletes and teams struggling with a variety of concerns since Athletes are Humans. Many times, student athletes have clinical concerns outside of their sport, such as performance, anxiety, body image difficulties, relationship concerns, and emotional dysregulation which impact performance and functioning both on and off the “field/court/pool.

My Story:

Dr. Tania found me underneath a car in Miami several years ago. I was homeless, abandoned,  neglected and in need of extensive medical care. I am now thriving and enjoying life with my human mommy, and personal caretaker Dr. Tania.

Dr. Tania:

Teddy sends me away to work in the morning, and welcomes me home at the end of the day. In this way, I like to think that he supports my work with you (indirectly) by making me laugh, getting me outside and reminding me to stay grounded each day. He is a very kind and loving dog and we are so blessed to have him in our lives. I thought he deserved a shout-out on the website. And I appreciate the small effort you’ve made to learn about him here 🙂
