Sports & Performance Psychology

Dr. Tania offers evidence-based mental training interventions designed to enhance the psychological health and performance of the competitive athlete.

Dr. Tania’s doctoral-level training in clinical psychology and unique history of being a former professional tennis player and NCAA student-athlete make her uniquely qualified to work with athletes and student-athletes.

Sport psychology interventions reflect the art and science of maximizing athletic performance. However, Dr. Tania never loses sight of the person within the athlete/performer. This means that an athlete’s mental health and personal needs are always prioritized.

Athletes are also HUMANS. They may struggle with a variety of psychological difficulties such as mental focus, athletic and academic performance, anxiety, body image difficulties, relationship concerns, and emotional turmoil. These difficulties may impact functioning both on and off the field/court/pool.

A Glimpse into Dr. Tania’s Athletic Journey…

My own experience as a former professional athlete played a pivotal role in my passion for sports and performance psychology. I grew up playing a variety of sports and started playing tennis at age 12. Tennis and running quickly became the lens through which I grew to know myself and the world. My youth career took me through the club/provincial state levels, and within four years, I was crowned a Canadian National Champion in Doubles U16. I was a student-athlete since middle school and attended a Student-Athlete middle and high school, thereafter I completed my last two years of high school online in Canada to travel. I was offered multiple full-athletic NCAA Division I scholarships to prestigious universities, however, I declined these to pursue my athletic potential on the professional WTA and ITF tours. I relocated to South Florida to train with my personal coach, who was formerly a Romanian Olympic coach. I later returned to school on a full athletic scholarship to Lynn University where I competed for the NCAA Women’s Tennis Team.

I have been teaching tennis for the past 10 years both independently and at a variety of country clubs throughout North America. Currently, in addition to practicing psychology, I am an Elite USPTA Professional and Certified Cardio Tennis provider.

My doctoral-level training in clinical psychology and unique history as a former professional tennis player and student-athlete make me uniquely qualified to work with a wide variety of concerns with athletes and student-athletes. My areas of interest include athletes struggling with disordered eating, body image, athletic career transition and termination, performance-optimizing, and finding a healthy balance. I have given many presentations and workshops to various Division I, II, and III varsity athletic teams. In my practice, my clients have included NCAA and professional athletes.
